A short introduction ...

 

Dear music fans,

this site is a subject of ongoing development. The original aim - to have an up-to-date online encyclopedia of all kinds of Czech and Slovak music - has proven a bit unrealistic after a few years of running the site.. Nevertheless, we have here a list of the most important artists & bands of the Czech and Slovak pop and (mainly) rock history, as well as a chronologically sorted list of the most important classical composers. We are still working on the design and functional improvement, though it takes more time than we would like to. We have decided to concentrate on the musical history (both classical and popular) up to the year 2000 (as monitoring current musical scene is too time consuming and exceeds our limited resources).

To listen to the musical samples, you need to have a working music player installed on your computer. Most of the players can play both MP3 and WMA sample files (e.g. Windows Media Player should do the job). Be aware that the samples are not full versions; usually, they are 30 to 50 seconds cuts using 48 Kbps/22 kHz compression. Depending on your connection speed, it might take a few seconds up to a few minutes until the file is downloaded and the player begins to play, so please be patient.
